This is my early research at story and character concepts.
The First was a romantic comedy:
The Second was a three stooges type comedy based around monkeys this was a mood board i started to develop:
From These Two Concept Ideas I have decided to go with the Three Stooges type story but i will change the cast from monkeys to a more native New Zealand animals.
I will begin to develop a treatment and a base skeleton of a story over the next few days.

Kubo and The Two Strings:
Stop Motion:
Stop-motion animation is an established discipline: single frame by single frame -- with 24 frames per second -- animators subtly and painstakingly manipulate tangible objects on a working stage. Each frame is photographed twice in order to create a final stereoscopic 3D image. Then the thousands of photographed frames are edited and projected together sequentially, bringing the characters and environments to life: movie magic created by hand.
New Techniques : The Models:
A team of about 65 builds the maquettes, all of which start with an armature (a model’s skeleton) that allows them to be posed.
For the beetle character voiced by Matthew McConaughey the designers used a computer to help them map armature that contained between 30 and 40 different ball-and-socket joints, hinges and swivels (compared to 17 or 18 for human characters). The internal armature sits inside a very soft foam latex inner-body core. Some of the external plates are joined to the armature through the foam, and some are just sliding plate-to-plate over the foam. So when you move him, you get a lot of the movement for free, without having to pose each plate.

Stop-motion animated plate.
Seams and Rig removal of stop-motion animated plate combined with lit digital village set extension blending into an early morning matte painted forest heavy sky. Rough gray-shaded CG animated crowd characters mingled into the set extension
Addition of mid-ground crowd blocked into frame.
Addition of foreground crowd blocked into frame.
Final lighting, shadowing, rendering and integration of CG crowd characters into village with additional set extension for end composite.
Research Question.
Starting Research Question:
How 3D character animation uses acting methods to express emotion and thought process to create the "illusion of life", and discover how it can become believable and engaging for the Audience in a short 3D Animation.Topic:
Showing thought process through emotional expression and gesturing.
Can thought process be shown through body language.
Key Words:
- Expression
- Gesturing
- Though Process
- Depth to Character
- emotion
- Character
- Reaction
- Interaction
- Personality
- Relationship
Love Story : a short romantic story about a barista who falls for a regular customer and how he is to nervous to talk to her so he tries to impress her. *Needs Work*
Comedy: a three stooges type story focusing around three monkeys fighting over bananas.
Question alteration idea: How can i express a character thought process through body language and expression.

Blog Post :
What kind of a movie could you make with $7,000?
With a $7000 film Budget. I Would be able to create a short Film Animation ranging from 10-15 minutes over a space of 6 months.
A majority of my budget would go towards software and either renting or building a render farm.
i have budgeted off renting a render farm.
This was a basic estimate for a good render farm service.
with this estimate i can calculate i would be able to produce a short film with the set budget. i would need to locally source voice actors and the production would be made by me and any volunteers i can recruiter form my class.
How would you scale that same movie up for $7,000,000?
On a $7,000,000 budget There would be 3 Big changes from the $7000 film.
Team: I would now be able to hire a team to help me develop a professional Pipeline.
This would include a Concept artist, Animator, Modeler, Texture Artist, Fx artist.for a period of 6 months.
Gear: I would be able to buy or build the render farm and computers i would need for the film.
Film Scope:
The Scope of the Film would have the most Dramatic change. I would be able to take the visual production quality up quite substantially. being able to add finer detail like dust and lighting. better special effects and much more lengthy and well developed post production phase.
Compare and contrast the original film with the “sequel”.
How did the narrative change when more money was added to the budget?
The Story was more consistent.
The Actors were not reused.
Did the director’s style change?
not really there were moments of influence from Quinton Tarantino.
Did new actors make a difference?
Yes. The actors really sold the performance. It was easy to see that this was the original vision of the script but the lack of funds limited the directors vision.
