Trev the Tuatara (Refrence)

These Are the Images i found took From a Research Documentary on Tuatara.
I was able to get a bunch of Reference images from many angles.
The Documentary also gave a lot of information on Tuatara.

I want to really try an incorporate aspects of these real like animals into my characters as they are really old animals that haven't evolved much since the dinosaur era.

Character Design (Weta)

At This point Will has not been fully designed and developed as i still am not sure what direction i want to take this character to make him more cute or menacing as a real challenging prey.

I have made up this  design i will be using as a template for now as i develop the character. This character was made for the start of my storyboards.

Character Designs (Trev)\

Character Design (Kenny)

Kenny The Kea Started as a Kakapo but i have decided to go in a different direction to add a bird that can fly and would be more of a predatory hunter.

The Design Has been simplified and refined to a more parrot looking character who has a recognizable silhouette.

Yet Kenny has retained key features of the Kea to easily make him distinguishable as a Kea.

Critique Review

My Question Needs Some Work It Still isn't too specific.
i need to add more on what i am trying to achieve.

People like my character designs but need to be refined and simplified.

Not Theoretical Text.
Find Some.

Kathryn Like the direction my project is heading but would like to see a story or some type of indication of what it will actually be about.

Loving Vincent Review.

That Oscar-nominated feature, comprised of hand-painted, animated reproductions of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings, recounts his final years, and his suicide, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France.

To be brass and and straight forward. I feel this film is a clear form of High Art animation. that has taken a true dedication to bring forth a truly remarkable piece of art to capture the life of one of mankind greatest artists.

More than 100 artists from all over the world created the 65,000 paintings that make up Loving Vincent using a frame-by-frame animation technique similar to stop motion. The Film ended up with 125 painters from 20 nations. Each went through a training process for the film, which included 100 hours of education in how to paint in the style of van Gogh, as well as an additional 100 hours of animation training.

The Overall Story does have some weak points and the dialogue becomes stale in a sense but the visuals really carry the Film.

Colour in Story Telling

#1:  Research the use of colour in a film you are familiar with
Discuss how colour is used in the film to support the story
May include: characters, time, place, mood, subtext

Gladiator colour in Lighting:
Variant color of lighting could shape out the atmosphere of the entire scene where it could captures the audience’s attention and further their expectations. In initial part of scenes, the color lighting used was rather dim and bluish to show the miserable war atmosphere. In major parts of the film, dim color lighting or chiaroscuro lighting was also often used. The purpose is to portray the nervous atmosphere of the thorough narratives. For instance, when Commodus is planning something bad, low key lighting will be applied on his face. Sometimes, the director will play lights on certain facial expressions to enhance the psychological feeling of a character. For example, after the arrangement of Maximus’s escape, Lucilla met Commodus where he questioned her whereabouts. At that moment, a line of lighting source was applied on Lucilla’s eyes, indicating the mysterious plan she had prepared. Furthermore, surreal color was applied during the illusion saw by Maximus after he was injured.

Gladiator colour in costume:
Furthermore, costumes and make-up also play an important role in the language of film. The status of a character can be visible with the change of an outfit. For instance, the transformation of Maximus from a slave to Gladiator is visible with the wear of armor. It also indicates how Maximus struggles and fights for his fate; from a slave gradually taking the position of Gladiator that loved by the people of Rome. The armor he wore also proves his status of becoming the savior of Rome.
Besides, divergence between the authority and the poor citizens were also evident to be seen through their clothing and make-up. For instance, the upper-class residents wore expensive fabrics embroidered with much jewelry while the lower-class citizens wore ragged or cheap cloths.

#2:  Choose a film from the list that you are NOT familiar with.
Watch this film and discuss how colour influenced your understanding or interpretation of what was happening.
May include:  characters, time, place, mood, subtext

Research Question for Screen Arts.

Bringing 2D squash and stretch techniques into 3D animation.

I want to be able to create blend shapes that allow my character to be squashed and stretched to show the old Looney Toons style of exaggerated gestures.
